Tips for Making Delicious Stew Recipes

February 8th, 2009

When the weather is cold and your family is craving something thick and warming, how about making a delicious stew? A stew is a mixture of solid foods such as meat or fish and vegetables, which have been cooked slowly or simmered in liquid to combine the flavors well. The liquid is served as well as the chunky bits.

Popular ingredients to use in stew recipes include chicken, seafood, meat, potatoes, fish, beans, fruit, and carrots. You can use bouillon, water, beer, or wine in the stew liquid and seasonings give the dish more flavor.

Meat, water, and vegetables cooked together will produce a stew but a very bland one, so it is helpful to know how to liven up your stew recipes and make them more delicious.

The Easiest Chicken Recipes for Novice Cooks

February 9th, 2009

Raw chicken should be stored in the refrigerator in its plastic wrap. It should not touch any other foods and it is best to keep raw meat, poultry, and fish on the lowest shelf so it does not drip on to anything else. Chicken needs to be cooked all the way through and not have any pink bits left inside. As long as you follow these basic rules, there is no reason not to start making tasty chicken recipes today!

Chicken is a definite health food. It is low in fat and most people enjoy the flavor. Deep fried chicken might not be as healthy as chicken baked in tomato sauce or grilled chicken salad for example but the great thing about chicken is that it is versatile and you can vary your chicken recipes because there are so many to choose from there is almost an endless supply. Chicken is also inexpensive and easy to cook once you know how.

If you have never cooked chicken before, a good dish to start off with will be something using boneless chicken pieces. Boneless chicken recipes are very simple and [...]

Cooking Great Food with a Deep Fryer

February 15th, 2009

Deep-frying is something that a lot of people have never tried and instead have left to the fast food outlets and restaurants. Deep-frying is actually quite easy though, when you know how it is done, and a deep fryer is the cleanest, safest way of deep-frying your food.

Pour the oil into the deep fryer, keeping it well below the indicated max fill line. If there is no max fill line, check the instructions. You will need enough oil so your food is immersed but do not fill it right up because your food will displace some of the oil.

Using the right temperature oil means the food does not absorb much oil. If the oil is too cool, the food will come out soggy. If it is too hot, the food will burn on the outside before the inside is done.

Add the food carefully, using a slotted spoon or tongs if your fryer does not have a basket. Do not overcrowd the fryer or the food will absorb too much oil. The food cooks quickly so you can deep fry in batches and the cooked food stays hot.
